Small Chest Freezer

What To Look For In A Small Chest Freezer

It's hunting season again and many of you will be putting meat in your freezers. But how do you know what size freezer to buy and weather or not you are getting a good deal on it? I have put together a basic guide to help you along with the purchase of your small chest freezer.

Probably the most important factor will be what you intend to use your freezer for. These come in many sizes and you will need to determine what size you need. If you are single or if it's just you and your spouse then you probably won't need anything big and might be able to go with the smallest ones available.

So how small are these? I found some as small as 5. 0 cubic foot. The price is great on these and start at about $160 but keep in mind that this is very small. This would be ideal to put a few microwave dinners in and maybe some left over food but nothing big.

The next size up is 7. 0 or more commonly 7. 2 cubic foot. These will run about $250 - $300 and will hold a little more but not a lot. This will be good if you buy in small quantities and just need a bit extra freezer space. Again these are good for singles or couples or if you have limited room.

After this you go up to the 8. 8 cubic foot size freezers. This is a better deal as they usually run about $300 as well and they will hold a bit more. This is good for a small family or if you are single or a couple and like to buy larger packs of meat and divide them up for individual meals.

The 12. 8-14. 8 cubic foot is still considered relatively small and starts out at prices of about $300 but go up to about $700. This is a good family size freezer or for buying in bulk. This will allow you to store quite a bit of meat if needed. This is also good for gardeners that want to store vegetables or maybe even for hunters to store a bit of meat. You may not be able to fit a whole deer in it especially if you don't cut it up first but these are a good size to have for most purposes.

Anything above this really can't be considered a small chest freezer. The larger freezers are for regular hunters and large families that need a lot of freezer space on a regular basis. They are much higher in price and you will need a fairly large space to put them in.

Weather you are looking for something big or small, you should research the best prices and remember to include any fees for shipping. Some offer free shipping which may be well worth paying a few dollars more on the product price as shipping can cost you quite a bit in some cases. Also keep in mind that buying it a little bigger than you actually think you need may be a good idea if you have the room to put it.
